T&T'S PREMIER THINK TANK
Dear reader,
Heliconia is continuing the success of the initial Book Club meeting. This aims to bring passionate readers together to discuss provocative themes. This month's selection is Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins. This semi-autobiographical account alleges that large international financial institutions purposefully saddle developing countries with massive debt. This serves to enrich local elites and international firms who specialize in providing certain consulting and engineering services while ensuring the now indebted state becomes a client state. These allegations were explosive when the book was published in 2004 and continues to fascinate and stir controversy today.
What does this mean for a post-oil, post-gas TnT? What does this mean for a new oil state Guyana? Can we see this being implemented in the China's BRI (Belt & Road Initiative)?
Over wine, puncheon or something in between, we will discuss the themes in the book. Message Nneka Matthews (729-1683) or Eric Hopkins II (+1.917.512.9641) to be added to the WhatsApp group.
Join us for drinks and a great conversation!
Electronic copies of the book are available within the group.
